Pupil Council
St John's first pupil council was elected towards the
end of 2004. The purpose of the council is to give the children a voice
in decisions made in the school and a sense of responsibility within the
school. Each class has two representatives who chair class councils and
then bring any matters raised to the pupil council which is held once a
fortnight on a Wednesday.
2008 -2009
Once again elections were held in the
Autumn term. There have been lots of suggestions for fund raising events
and other activities from the children including:-
a best hat or jumper competition as part of mufti day
an Easter egg hunt
football free mornings on the top part of the playground
a model boat race with the boats designed and made in design technology
2007 - 2008
Elections for the pupil council were held in the
Autumn term and new representatives were selected for each class. The
first items the pupil council are raising with their classes are:-
ideas for things to go in the open air classroom which is being planned at
present
the development of a questionnaire to find out what the pupils think
about having hot school lunches
whether some of the Tesco Sport for Schools vouchers should be used for
a tennis or athletics coaching session
2006 - 2007
Elections were held in the Autumn term again. The first task for the
pupil council was to ask the rest of the children what they would like
to choose from the Tesco Sports For Schools catalogue. The equipment for
use in the playground at lunchtime has been ordered.
We helped organise the fund raising event for the NSPCC in which the
First school children chose to do a shuttle run and the Middle school
did tri-golf during a PE lesson. Donations were made to support these
events and over £1700 was raised.

We also collected ideas for incentives to encourage more pupils to take
part in the Go For Gold walk to school scheme.
We designed posters to advertise for play leaders from years 5 and 6 for
the Huff and Puff lunchtime scheme.
We now have a large
clock for the back playground and new picnic benches with games on which
were purchased for us by the Parents Association 4
members of the pupil council, Harry, Amelia, Rory and Holly, were
involved in the interviews for the new deputy head. They asked questions
raised by the children.
2005 - 2006
Elections were held for a new council in the Autumn term and their first
project was building a link with a school in Uganda. We sent a parcel of
pencils and other stationery donated by the children.
This year we have organised
a film show for both the First and Middle school
have been involved in the setting up of the 'Huff and Puff' lunchtime
activities
involved in the planning for the Fun, Food and Fitness Fortnight to take
place at the end of term.
2004 - 2005
In its first year the council
were involved in the development of the school grounds
were included in discussions on school uniform issues
held a very successful Talent Show
raised funds for Tiggywinkles
