Welcome

Welcome to St John’s C of E School and thank you for visiting our website.

Inspire creativity and fulfil potential within a Christian ethos

I hope the site provides you with all the information you need as well as showing you some of the activities that the children are able to enjoy at St John’s.

As a Church of England school we have an important part to play in the village of Lacey Green and our links with the village are very good. We aim to provide a good quality and varied education for all the village children as well as neighbouring towns and villages. We are an inclusive school and welcome children from all religious backgrounds as well as those with no religious beliefs. We are linked to St John’s Church set opposite the school. This is a beautiful building which we are privileged to visit on a regular basis. Working closely with the Church community, we promote the Christian values and as an inclusive school, encourage participation from all religions.

At St John’s we set high standards of both work and behaviour for pupils and staff alike, covering all aspects of school life. This was recognised in our latest OFSTED inspection:

‘Pupils behave well. They feel safe, attend regularly, work hard in lessons and want to do well.’

We believe that children need to have success celebrated to encourage them to strive to be the best they can. As a result, St John’s children are known for being articulate, independent young people ready to face the challenges of life. We achieve this because we believe in developing the whole child.

Currently we have an exciting curriculum that has been designed to give our children a wide range of opportunities that are designed to meet their needs. This, along with consistently good teaching allows all our children to make progress at their own speed. We are in the process of developing our curriculum to make it even more exciting and relevant to all children. We value equal opportunities for children and work hard to ensure that all children can access the curriculum at their own level.

‘The school has a caring and inclusive ethos. It is committed to equality of opportunity.’ (OFSTED November 2013.)

We have a strong sporting tradition at St John’s. Children are encouraged to take part in a range of sporting events both individually and team games. We offer a range of sporting after school activities some run by school staff and other activities run by external providers. Music also plays an important part in the life of the school. There are many opportunities for children to learn a musical instrument and we are able to host a school orchestra for some children in KS2. Years 5 and 6 are all in the school choir.

To support the curriculum we offer a large number of clubs run by both school staff and outside providers. These prove to be very successful encouraging a number of skills to be developed in a safe and fun environment.
The partnership we have with our parents is good.

The school has a very good relationship with parents and carers. They speak highly of how each child’s individual needs are met.  (OFSTED November 2013.)

Many parents come into school to support teachers and children. The PA is very active and raises a fantastic amount of money, enabling the children to have many additional resources. For example they have helped us to develop a new KS2 library and refitted the fitness trail.

Our recent OFSTED report graded us as a good school. This is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all members of the school community.

Our website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have.

Thank you for visiting!
